Command: tombstone

This operation is valid for Windows Home Server version 1 only. Tombstones are a set of meta data that enable WHSv1 to organize the data from the various drives into a single view. When using duplication and when a drive is lost, for instance,  WHSv1 simply changes the tombstones of the lost files to point to the surviving copies on the other drives. When re-installing WHSv1 or recovering a drive, WHS does not restore the tombstones as it can only deal with empty drives and not with drives with exiting data. The tombstone command in FlexRAID allows users to restore the tombstones under all scenarios. FlexRAID can restore tombstones even on systems where FlexRAID was not running before.

tombstone <action>

  • restore

Returns a CommandResponse object.
